Join us in September for an exciting Workshop with Melissa Arnold!

In this exciting 4 day class we will learn the Art of Arashi Shibori on silk fabric and then felt thru it to create a fabulous wrap with a button closure. Arashi means storm and it is the shibori technique of pole wrapping to create linier designs on fabric. This design element is wonderful when felted thru and gives your wrap a design that resembles an animal skin.

We will spend the first day dyeing our silk, pole wrapping, discharging (removing color) and over dyeing our silk pieces. Day 2 and 3 will be spent exploring design and layout options for creating an innovative  and exciting wrap from our shibori silk using Merino wool with assorted fibers for embellishment. Day 4 we will focus on exploring finishing details Such as the “fabulous felted button” and the “irreverent button hole”  and other innovative options for your wrap.

This is a class for Intermediate Felters. Some dye experience is helpful but not necessary.

Melissa has spent the last 15 years as a Professional Textile Designer, collaborating with Fashion Designer Catherine Bacon, and the last 25 years working with Traditional and Contemporary Shibori techniques.
